It
was happy hour at the Wyndham El San Juan Hotel. We sat on tapestry
chairs, tapping our toes to salsa tunes and listening to the ping of
slot machines that jingled from the glittering doorway to the casino.
The enormous crystal chandelier over the mahogany wine bar seemed to
dip and sway with the music, and, like a spinning doll on a jewelry
box, a kimono-clad woman glided across the rose marble floor and
stopped before us with a sudden, somewhat jerky, bow.
