The moment we stepped into the bright marbled lobby, we heard a high-pitched cry:  ko-KEE!  I peered into the potted foliage in search of hidden speakers.  Others in my group -- Corky and John and Elaine -- glanced about, expecting to find an especially musical bellhop. 
 
But the persistent whistle came from a less predictable source.  A coqui -- a tiny tree frog which lives only in Puerto Rico -- had been set loose inside the lobby of San Juan's lavish Sands Hotel.

We had come to Puerto Rico to sample the opulence of its resorts and luxury hotels.  We wanted to see for ourselves the palatial palaces shown in slick brochures that proclaim, "the largest," "the tallest," "the oldest," "the first," "the newest," and "the most spectacular"...
