After nearly a week in Puerto Rico, we had emptied our pockets in glitzy casinos, we had worn down our shoes on the cobbled walks of Old San Juan, and we had lifted our spirits in classy shops and elegant restaurants. 

But we had not begun to see the island. 

Truthfully, we did not think there was much to see.  Puerto Rico is small - only 35 miles wide and 110 miles long.  But when we examined our maps, we saw promise for more adventure than even the most energetic tourist can take on.

And we were remarkably energetic...
