She Snapped Sister’s Diary Wide

Abstract swirls with fractured images of a photograph of a face

When assigned to paint a self-portrait for an art class, my mother made this nightmarish collage. A serpent, fabric patterns, flames, and octopus arms swirl around fragmented black and white photographs of her face. The picture is so disturbing, I find it hard to look at. Nevertheless, the images prompted several poems in my collection, Secret Formulas & Techniques of the Masters. The book is available from Brick Road Poetry Press and other book sellers.
